Synopsis:
Christian, Berni and Elmar, three friends at university, borrow a car and drive into the forest in the middle of the night. They smoke their last cigarette then connect the exhaust to the interior of the car and start the engine. Serenely, they fall into a slumber and die. A few months later, in a small village in the Tyrol, Christian and Berni’s families try to maintain a normal life. Leo and Martina, brother and sister to the deceased, are lovers, in a somewhat tumultuous relationship. Their mourning parents also continue to try to live their lives as before. However, the ever present grief afflicts them all. While sharing the same heavy sadness, these individuals find they cannot share their feelings with one another. The emptiness and confusion left by the death of the three boys appears to poison their lives.
