Synopsis:


Equal parts narrative, experimental, documentary, and animated film, embraces the fantastical and wholly visual world of the Surrealists to whimsically illustrate the life and pursuits of 86 year-old Jean Benoit, the last official member of the hugely influential Surrealist group. Winner of the Best Short Film Award from the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival and Best Short Doc from the 2013 Seattle. International Film Festival.

Biography:

Deco Dawson is an international award-winning filmmaker from Winnipeg, Canada. His 15 innovative short films remain at times unclassifiable, often merging miniatures, archival footage, meticulous set design, and in camera effects to create imaginative worlds. Dawson’s FILM(dzama) won the Best Short Film Award at the 2001 Toronto International Film Festival and his latest film Keep a Modest Head won the TIFF Best Short Film Prize in 2012. Dawson is the recent recipient of the Province of Manitoba’s Hothouse Award, the City of Winnipeg Mayor’s Art Award and the 2013 Best Short Doc Award from the 2013 Seattle International Film Festival.
