When the critically acclaimed, actress Thea Barfoed ends her rehab, she confronts a difficult choice. During her heavy drinking period she was divorced and lost custody of her two boys. She now wants her children to be part of her life again. Christian, her ex-husband is quickly pursuaded by her tough manipulative but charming personality. She must prove to herself and to him that she is capable. As Thea is up against the rigorous demands of stage life and a past that haunts her, she must face her inner demons while clinging to the goal she has set for herself.




Martin Pieter Zandvliet, born January 7th 1971, in Fredericia, Denmark. Zandvliet is a self-taught director and writer.

He first started out as an editor working on documentaries for various directors. Zandvliet's first film as a director. “Angels of Brooklyn” won a Danish Robert for Best Long Documentary and was chosen for various festivals including Toronto Hot Docs and Nyon. After that he did several shorts, as a writer and director. Applause is Zandvliet´s first feature film.
