The Sky Crawlers is an SF tale about special kind of genetically modified war pilots, who fight for the supremacy of two giant multinational companies. Warlike Kildrens stop growing when they are teenagers. Therefore, their reflexes remain excellent and they stay young forever. However, youth is not a synonym for immortality, because in numerous tough battles, Kildrens die all the time. One of the Kildrens called Kanami is transferred to a new base to replace a dead pilot. That is a common situation for Kildrens. A problem occurs when Kanami finds out that the plane of the deceased pilot is not damaged at all. He fails to find out something more about the death of the pilot.

The film The Sky Crawlers is an adaptation of the popular novel series by writer Hiroshi Mori. More than 90,000 copies of the novel were sold in Japan only. The story happens in parallel present time, where the protagonists are young people called Kildrens, whose destiny is to live forever and to participate in fights which are organised and lead by adults.
