Animatrix will present a fascinating animated saga called The Secret of Kells, which brings to life the magic world of Irish mythology through truly magical story about a twelve-year-old boy who is about to experience numerous adventures, fights with Vikings, dangerous mythical creatures and traps of enchanted forest.

Brendan is only twelve. He lives in an ancient abbey. He discovers a new life calling with the arrival of famous old illuminator Brother Aidan, who came from Jonah and brought The Book of Kells. While looking at indescribably beautiful illustrations of the ancient book, Brendan discovers his talent and his love for drawings.

In order to finish drawing the holy book, he needs a colour which can be made out of special forest fruit. However, for his own good, he is forbidden to go into the enchanted forest by the head of abbey. But Brendan's passion for drawing is to strong so he uses the first opportunity to secretly go into the forest while residents of the abbey are building a tall wall for protection from hostile Viking attacks. In the forest, he meets the fairy Aisling and discovers the secrets of the enchanted forest...

The Book of Kells (Leabhar Cheanannais) is an ancient illustrated manuscript in Latin, which contains four gospels of the New Testament. Using Insular Art style, Celtic monks, using their talent, painted the book with great effort, while using Vulgate (early version of the Bible in Latin, 5th century) and Vetus Latina (Bible written in old Latin) as models. Shapes of people, animals and mythical beasts, together with Celtic knots, represent the basic motif of an art style known as Insular Art, which was typical for Great Britain's post Roman period.

The music gives this animated creation a special dimension. It is the work of band Kila, which has created music for twenty years. Seven members of this orchestra share the same passion in creating music of very original and recognisable style, music which is intended to be a perfect harmonic fusion of musical influences from around the world, with roots which arise from traditional Irish folk music.
