The Street Musicians Festival – Gradić Fest will open on Friday, September 1, with a pageant which will pass through the streets of Novi Sad, from Trg Slobode to Podgrađe in Petrovaradin Fortress. This parade, which will unite citizens and artists, will start at 8 PM in the city center; before and after that, the Gradić programme will be carried out according to the Festival Timetable. The pageant will pass all the way through Modena Street and Mihailo Pupin Boulevard, across the “Rainbow” Bridge (Petrovaradinska duga) to Beogradska Street in Podgrađe. The public transit on this route will be completely suspended from 7 PM to 9 PM.
The pageant will be led by Flaach Bras Band, an orchestra from Switzerland with 30 bras players performing as they march, known for their precise and rich sound. The visual part of the parade will consist of five large sculptures made of balloons representing five golden birds, the symbol of peace on the Pretrovaradin coat of arms. Balloons, often associated with fun and entertainment in the collective subconscious, in this case become monumental art sculptures, which will be carried and moved by the audience themselves. The authors of the sculptures are Novi Sad’s own Nenad Đukić, who lives and works in France, and Sean Rooney from Canada, a world-renowned balloon artist, who will also perform at the festival as a musician, playing on unique instruments made from balloons.
At the opening of the Cinema City International Film Festival, which will be held as part of the Gradić Fest, Mirjana Karanović and Miodrag Mišo Milošević will be presented with the IBIS Award for their immense contribution to the national cinema. After the Award Ceremony, the main programme will open with two exceptional films: “Requiem for Mrs. J”, a film by Bojan Vuletić starring Mirjana Karanović in the lead role, which is a nominee for the European Film Award, and “Heartstone”, a directorial debut by the Icelandic filmmaker Guðmundur Arnar Guðmundsson.
Public Transit Suspended
For all the three days of the Festival, the public transit in Gradić will be suspended from 5 PM to 3 AM. The rule applies to Beogradska Street, from the bridge to the entrance into the Fortress, Štrosmajerova Street, Lisinski Street and Nazorova Street. We recommend that the visitors and residents of Podgrađe park their cars on the plateau near the Military Hospital. Vehicles found in the above-mentioned areas will not be ticketed, but will be towed away to the designated parking area by the traffic police.
To Gradić by Bus or by Bike
A bus line with a low-floor vehicle will be available free of charge to the Gradić Fest visitors on Friday and Saturday, September 2 and 3, from 5 PM to 11 PM. The bus will operate in both directions between Trg slobode (Liberty Square), in front of the Cathedral, to the beginning of Beogradska Street. It will be branded with the Gradić Fest colors, and there will also be a small stage at the starting station, at Trg Slobode, playing the AS FM Radio programme.
