Ceremonial Atmosphere of the First Day of the Festival

Yesterday, on 14th of June, with the beginning at 19:00, right before the ceremonial part of the opening of Cinema City Festival in “Jovan Djodjevic” hall of Serbian National Theatre, we could see familiar faces of domestic film industry as well as respected festival guests from abroad in a festive mood. The official part of the opening began after the introductory word of the master of ceremony couple, when Ivan Lalic, art director of the festival talked to the audience in a hearty, welcome manner.

With paying respect to the film art and faith in the revitalization of Serbian cinema and better film tomorrow, Lalic thanked for support in the whole project, especially to our famous actor Dragan Bjelogrlic, the Mayor of Novi Sad, Maja Gojkovic, and the President of Executive Council of Vojvodina, Bojan Pajtic. This was followed by the introduction of the international jury consisting of: famous Holland film critic, Peter Van Bueren, director of Thessalonica festival, Despina Mouzaki, French actor Tomas Poulard, British director, Dom Rotheroe, and our filmmaker, Radan Popovic who came to Novi Sad from USA.

After historical overview about Ernest Bosnjak and Novi Sad as a city with film tradition, Bojan Pajtic, President of Executive Council of Vojvodina, welcomed the foreign and domestic guests. The official opening of the festival was given to famous actress and great inspiration of director Lee Chang-dong, Mun Soo-ri, who travelled from South Korea because of the festival. She received a great applause and sympathies from the audience. The projection of Vinko Bresan’s creation, “Will not End There” followed, which was the ceremonial opening of the film part of the Cinema city program. After the projection, the film crew was greeted with respect and a great applause.
