Call for Up to 10.000 bucks successfully closed

The call for Up to 10.000 bucks selection was officially opened on March 11, 2011. Due to the great interest, the deadline for applying was moved until Sunday, April 10. We received surprisingly many applications, meaning this year’s selector will have a truly challenging task, but also guaranteeing the quality of the programme. The total of 145 films applied. A great number of films came from Spain and Israel, then the UK, the US, Croatia, Switzerland, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Canada, Germany, Australia, France, Iran, Italy and Turkey. Estonia, Greece, China, Hungary, Lebanon, Mexico, Montenegro, Norway, Poland, Portugal and Russia sent one film each. A total of 71 films came from Serbia.

We asked programme coordinator Dina Vukovic of her impressions regarding the response to this year’s call for Up to 10.000 bucks selection: I am very satisfied with the number of films applied. The number 145 speaks for itself; it holds a promise of a great potential for future development. It also confirmed that Cinema City earned its place among other international film festivals, since a total of 74 films came from abroad.

Up to 10.000 bucks selection is one of Cinema City’s most attractive features. Each year it discovers new talents and provides them with an opportunity of getting ahead in the film industry. Authors of the chosen films from all over the world will be guests of the festival, and will have the opportunity to meet each other and further educate themselves in the field, through numerous workshops and master classes held by prominent filmmakers. This year’s selector is director Srdjan Koljevic, whose film “The Woman With a Broken Nose” won last year’s Grand Prix for best domestic feature.
