Awards for the contribution to world cinema presented to directors Želimir Žilnik and Eran Riklis

At the recently held official opening ceremony of the sixth Cinema City International Film Festival, in the fully-packed hall 5 of the Arena Cineplex film theatre, we presented awards – Ibis statuettes for the contribution to world cinema to two great directors, Želimir Žilnik and Eran Riklis.

The Programme Selector Bojana Bandić presented the award to our director Želimir Žilnik, who in turn spoke to the audience, which greeted him with a tumultuous applause.

The award to the renowned Israeli director was presented by Mr Mirko Štark, professor of production at the Academy of Art in Novi Sad, and a notable member of the Jewish community in Novi Sad. As professor Štark said:

For his extraordinary love of films to which he dedicated his life, for the multitude of issues dealt with in his films, heroes in which he finds something good even when circumstances they’re in are less than favourable, and for giving hope to people, the CINEMA CITY festival presents our distinguished guest with the Ibis award for the contribution to world cinema

Riklis then officially declared the festival open. This was followed by the screening of “Final Cut: Ladies and Gentlemen”, which marked the beginning of a week filled with great film accomplishments.
