Retrospective of a Foreign Author Selection, dedicated to a great film artist, a Korean artist called Lee Chang-dongu, is going to present his many times awarded movie spectacle called Secret Sunshine (Miryang) from 2007. After Cannes Film Festival, 2007, where it was nominated for the prestigious award called Golden Palm, and where Jeon Do-yeon won the award in the category of best actress, the work by Lee Chang-donga achieved world success and popularity with the true film fans.
The movie shows the life of a woman, which changes intensively after misfortunate circumstances. When her husband dies in a car accident, Shin-ae decides to move with her son to the town where she was born, Miryang. Soon, she realizes that her new neighbours, despite her effort to adjust, are quite inhospitable. She opens a piano school wanting to blend more easily into the new surroundings and to make contacts, but nothing helps. A new tragic event changes her life…
Jeon Do-yeon’s role of Shin-ae in the movie brought, among else, an award for best actress in Cannes Film Festival, 2007. Jeon was born in 1973. She started her career as a TV star. The success of a movie called The Contact (1997) puts her on the high position of the most popular Korean actors.
