On June 21st 2008, at Cinema City Film & Media festival’s closing ceremony, awards were presented in the following categories:
Jury FIPRESCI Serbia with members Vladimir Džudović (Radio Beograd 1) chairman, Vladimir Crnjanski (Dnevnik, Novi Sad) and Brankica Drašković (Građanski list, Novi Sad) decided to present award for best film of the festival to Art of Negative Thinking by a Norwegian director Bård Breien in competitive selection “Exit Point”, stating:
Being politically incorrect in a positive way, author Bård Breien deals with the problems of people with special needs. Being humorous and solemn at the same time, through intimate drama in macabre rhythm, it confronts audience with a global problem of absence of sincere interpersonal communication in a modern world.
Jury for Serbian branch of FIPRESCI at Cinema City festival in Novi Sad 2008, with members Dejan Ognjanović (chairman, Popboks), Dejan Petrović (Radio Belgrade, III program) and Slobodan Radosavljević (Radio Belgrade, III program) unanimously came to a decision to award Swedish horror-drama Let the Right One In (Låt den rätte komma in). The award is given for engagement in broadening the expression of the genre and for successfully overcoming distinctions between genre and art film. Director Tomas Alfredson managed to find a balance between Hollywood and European approach and gave an auteur film with intimate atmosphere, which combines the best from both worlds. This genre story gives a subtle, carefully tinted message of friendship which transcends all else.
