Cinema City 2010

Third edition of Cinema City film and media festival was held from June 5-12 2010. Special attraction for movie lovers was guest appearance of Juliette Lewis, renowned American actress, who opened last year’s film programme and also performed at the musical opening of the festival at Petrovaradin fortress, on June 5th.

During those eight days, Cinema City presented over 120 films, more than 30 premieres within three competition selections, at five locations: Katolicka porta, Serbian National Theatre, Danube Park, Youth Theatre and Museum of Contemporary Art of Vojvodina. Last year, festival was attended by over 80.000 visitors. Clear skies, warm weather and quality programme certainly added to excellent attendance at open-air cinemas, which are among the strongest points of the festival. A great interest was expressed for guest appearance of Iraqi director Mohamed Al-Daradji.

The winner of Cinema City 2010, a film with most awards, is Srđan Koljević’s “The Woman With a Broken Nose”, a love story on overcoming emotional scarrings from the past, through seemingly impossible affections. Excellent cast consists of Nebojša Glogovac, Branka Katić, Anica Dobra, Nada Šargin, Vuk Kostić, Jasna Žalica, Nikola Rakočević, Dara Džokić, Vojin Ćetković, Srđan Todorović, Ljubomir Bandović and many others. This is also the first film where two great stars of Serbian cinematography, Anica Dobra and Branka Katić, shared the screen together.

The best film within Exit Point competition selection is Debra Granik’s “Winter’s Bone”, a film that made a notable appearance at prestigious festivals such as Sundance, Berlinale etc. This terrific achievement describes in the best possible way the quintessential crossing from childhood into adulthood. The best film within Up to 10.000 bucks competition selection was Nikola Ljuca’s “Thursday”. A special attraction of the festival were films from Burn Planet Rock and Animatrix selection, which aired at open-air cinema at Danube park, making it one the most vivacious festival location.

Closing party held on June 12th at Petrovaradin fortress, was Cinema’s way of signing off through music. The party was attended by over 6.000 visitors who had an opportunity to enjoy the performances of acclaimed names of national DJ scene in B2B sets, Flip & MKDSL, Felony Flats & Andrea 3000, Roy Fokker & Dee Face, Dejan Milićević & Marko Milosavljević, and as a special event, the guest appearance of French Fries.
